Type-1 echoes from the mid-latitude E-Region ionosphere
This paper presents more data on the properties of type-1 irregularities in the nighttime midlatitude E-region ionosphere. The measurements were made with a 50-MHz Doppler radar system operating in Crete, Greece. The type-1 echoes last from several seconds to a few minutes and are characterized by narrow Doppler spectra with peaks corresponding to wave phase velocities of 250–350 m/s. The avera...
متن کاملThree-dimensional tracking of mid-latitude quasi-periodic E-region echoes observed with the Chung-Li VHF radar
This paper presents observations of low-altitude mid-latitude E-region irregularities obtained with the 52MHz Chung-Li VHF radar. These are carried out in the interferometer mode to investigate the behavior of these irregularities over time and space. The observations presented here show the characteristics of type-II echoes noted by a negative slope, i.e. they are approaching the radar as a fu...

متن کاملThe first coordinated observations of mid-latitude E-region quasi-periodic radar echoes and lower thermospheric 557.7-nm airglow
We present the first coordinated observations of quasi-periodic (QP) radar echoes from sporadic-E (Es) field-aligned irregularities (FAIs), OI 557.7-nm airglow, and neutral winds in a common volume over Shigaraki, Japan (34.9 N, 136.1 E) on the night of 5 August 2002 during the SEEK-2 campaign. QP echo altitudes of 90–110 km were lower than usual by 10 km, enabling us to make a detailed compari...
متن کاملType II antifreeze protein from a mid-latitude freshwater fish, Japanese smelt (Hypomesus nipponensis).
A lot of reports of antifreeze protein (AFP) from fish have been published, but no report has mentioned of commercialized mid-latitude fresh water fish which producing AFP in its body fluid. We found that the AFP in the body fluid of Japanese smelt (Hypomesus nipponensis) from mid-latitude fresh water was purified and characterized. The N-terminal amino acid sequence of the Japanese smelt AFP w...
